Top free iPhone apps: Italy and France go for gladiatorial combat

iPhone users in France and Italy are engaging in gladiatorial-style hand-to-hand combat in front of the Colosseum's crowds as they fight their way to glory in the free application Blood & Glory. Elsewhere in the world UK users are testing their logical-thinking abilities in the Idiot Test, and Australians are having a go at the Hardest Game Ever. Details of these and other top free iPhone applications by country* for the week, by number of downloads, recorded on November 21 can be found below.
1. USA Amazing Breaker Free (games)
The free version of the Amazing Breaker app which challenges players to destroy ice sculptures with a variety of different bombs.
2. UK
Idiot Test- Way too funny 
This game tests users' general knowledge and logical-thinking abilities with a series of deceptively simple questions; players can also share scores and challenge their friends to a game over Facebook and Twitter.
3. France
Blood & Glory 
Players of this Roman Gladiator-style game engage in hand-to-hand combat with a number of different opponents using a variety of weapons in order to become champion.
4. Canada
Burn the Rope Worlds 
Burn the Rope Worlds is the latest in the popular Burn the Rope series of applications. Like its predecessors, Burn the Rope Worlds challenges users to keep the ‘flame' alight as it progresses along a rope maze; the flame only burns upwards so players must tilt the phone to ensure it remains alight.
5. Japan ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ4 エピソードⅠ LITE for Mobage (games)
Translated into English as Sonic the Hedgehog Episode 4 lite, this application is one of the latest to bring popular video games character ‘Sonic the Hedgehog' to the iPad.
6. Australia Hardest Game Ever -0.02s (game)
This gaming application, which claims to be the ‘Hardest Game Ever,' tests players' reaction times, measuring how fast and accurately they can shoot at a target and 'catch' falling objects. The app includes eight stages across three levels plus ten bonus levels which are unlocked once all previous stages are completed.
This application gives home chefs access to over 200,000 recipes uploaded by users of the website chefkoch.de. Users can search recipes by a number of criteria including key word, ingredients and preparation times.
8. China
Terrible Coaster 
This application lets users design their own ‘spooky' roller coaster, complete with death defying jumps, twists and other features.

10. Korea*  한게임 런앤히트  (entertainment)
This Korean-language baseball game is based on the actual Korean Baseball League and includes real players as well as club and player stats dating back to 2000.
